Zibane Mzibuko is caught poaching on Phinda and is found guilty by the Tribal Court. He is sentenced to three months community service at Phinda, where he is given a job making bricks. With developments happening across the reserve, Zibane uses his skill to start his own business with assistance from the Rural Investment Fund, supplying over 300 000 bricks for the construction of andBeyond Forest Lodge

Rural Investment Fund (now Wild Impact) is founded and continues to be the primary non-profit community and conservation development partner. There are two full-time community officers working in the communities surrounding the reserve. The Rural Investment Fund is rebranded as Africa Foundation and finally as Wild Impact in 2024
